Head shave raises €2,500 for Arthritis Ireland

 

On 29^th June 2019 a ‘head shave or dye’ fundraiser was held in Ryan’s pub, Burncourt, Cahir, Co. Tipperary. This event was organised by Margaret (Mags) O’Flynn Carroll who was brave enough to undertake a full head shave on the day in support of Arthritis Ireland. The event raised an incredible €2,500 for the organisation. Four other volunteers took part, raising much needed funds for various other charities.

 

There was great hype with over 120 people in attendance, who dug deep in their pockets and gave generously. Many businesses kindly offered spot prizes and hampers for the event’s raffle.

 

Margaret had 13 inches cut from her hair, donating 12 inches to the Princess Trust to be made into a wig for children with hair loss.

 

Having lived with rheumatoid arthritis for a number of years, Margaret wanted to increase awareness and raise much needed funds for Arthritis Ireland. Through the generosity of Margaret and others, Arthritis Ireland continues to deliver support and information to the nearly 1 million adults and 1,200 children who are affected by arthritis.

 

On behalf of Margaret and Arthritis Ireland, we wish to extend our thanks to Pat and Jackie Ryan for facilitating this fundraiser and providing the food and music on the night. Also to those who helped Margaret make the evening a success, with particular mention of her amazing husband Anthony, their friends Sean, Shane, Willie, Ollie and Nicky. Lastly, a very special thanks to Grace and Shelly, who did a stellar job of making all volunteers neat and presentable, post-shave and dye.

If you have an idea for a fundraiser, be a community event like Margaret’s head shave and dye, a ‘bake-off’, a fashion show or even if you are a daredevil and wish to do a sponsored sky-dive, we would love to hear from you here in Arthritis Ireland.  We receive no guaranteed state funding and so fundraising and donations are vital to allow us to continue to provide hope to those with arthritis, by funding research and support to help them deal with the many challenges of this debilitating illness.
