Organise Your Own Event

Whatever you love doing, do it for people with arthritis.

We want you to dedicate your cake sales, head shaves, pyjama days or whatever you like and change the lives of people with arthritis.

Whether you are organising a coffee morning at work with a couple of colleagues, or are attempting a world record breaking attempt, by raising funds for Arthritis Ireland, you are helping make a BIG difference to the lives of the nearly 1 million children and adults in Ireland with arthritis.

And we are here to help you every step of the way. If you want to find out more about how simple organising your own fundraising event can be, you can register your interest here and our team will be in touch shortly.

Planning your Event

So, you want to organise an event? Here are our top tips to help make it all run smoothly:

1: Pick Your Event

Chose what type of event you want to organise to raise funds for Arthritis Ireland. Whether a bake sale or a head shave, the main steps for planning are the same. If you have an idea and would like to talk to someone about it, call us on 01-6470209 or Email us for more information.

Beginning

2: Select Your Date

Pick a Date for your event to take place. Have a look at other events in the area and see are there anything that may clash? Are there large sporting events taking place, or are other charities having an event that is similar? Bear in mind that there will usually be something else competing for an audience. It is your job to make sure that your event is the one that everyone wants to go to!

Once you have chosen your event and date, contact Arthritis Ireland and let us know. We are here to help, give you advice and support and send out any materials you may need. Call us on 01-6470209 or Email us for more information.

Beginning

3: Set Your Fundraising Target

It is always good to have a target in mind when organising your event. It doesn't have to be a huge amount, but it can help when you are pricing tickets and promoting the event.

Beginning

4: Register for your Online Fundraising Page

By registering for your very own online Fundraising Page , people can donate to your event no matter where they are in the world. And the donations are fully secure and safe. Plus, you don't have to worry about collecting money from people afterwards.

Download our helpful tips to maximise your online fundraising.

Beginning

5: Start Planning Your Event

Sit down with your family or friends (you will need helpers) and write down all the things you need to do. Do you need to book a venue? Or hire a band? Create lists of tasks and allocate your helpers jobs to do by a certain date. Download our lists to help you with your planning.

6: Tell Everyone

Tell as many people you can about your event. Use our specially designed posters to promote it. You can download and print what you need and write your event details on it. Use email, text, Facebook and local papers and radio to create lots of awareness about the event. Don't forget to tell people why you are raising funds for Arthritis Ireland, and how the money raised will help children and adults with arthritis.

If people can't go to your event, ask them to consider buying a ticket anyway so that they can still support it.

Beginning

7: Be Safe

To make sure your event is a success be sure that it is safe - do you have enough volunteers and helpers on the night. If you are expecting large crowds, do you need to arrange security or additional insurance? Do you need to have medical support if it is a sporting event?

If you are at all unsure of whether you might need to think about these things, contact us on 01-6470209 or Email us and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

8: Have Fun and Enjoy Your Event

Remember to enjoy your event. Have fun and enjoy all the hard work you and your team have put into the event.

Take lots of pictures & send them to us.

Remember also to thank everybody who supports your brilliant event.

Beginning

9: After the Event

Return the funds you have raised to Arthritis Ireland as soon as you can. This way we can send out Thank you letters and certificates which you can show everyone who helped out. Plus, the sooner you return funds to us the sooner we can put those funds to work. Contact us on 01-6470209 or Email Us for the various ways you can return money to us.

Make sure that you say Thank You to everyone who helped you with the event -whether they were volunteers, donated prizes or gave you a venue. Saying thank you shows that you appreciate their support.

Finally, use Facebook, email, text and local media again to let everyone know how amazing the event was and how much was raised!

10: Hints, Tips and Guidelines.

With more and more organisations fundraising now, it is really important that you stay within the law. Here are some tips to make sure that you do.

Raffles

  • Tickets may not be sold by under 16's
  • You will need a licence to sell tickets in public. These permits can take months to be issued so plan early. If you have a doubt as to whether you require a licence, contact Áine on 01-6470209.

Flyers, posters, leaflets etc:

  • The Arthritis Ireland Charity Registration Number must appear on all printed documents such as posters etc. Please contact us on 01-6470209 for approval before going to print with any specially designed posters etc.

Rules for collecting money:

  • For street collections, flag days or Church Gate collections you must have a permit issued by the Gardai. These can take up to 4 months to be issued so bear this in mind when planning your event.
  • When making a collection in a private area, like your local shopping centre or supermarket, then you will need the permission of the property owner.

Your safety is paramount:

  • Please do not do anything unsafe or illegal - everything you do will reflect on us and our reputation is important to us. If in doubt about anything, simply ask us. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Guiding Principles for Fundraising

Arthritis Ireland is pleased to confirm that it is fully compliant with the Statement for Guiding Principles for Fundraising developed by the ICTR. This is an important step in ensuring good governance for the organisation and also instilling confidence in the general public of our adherence to good fundraising practice.

If you would like to find out more about organising your own fundraising event you can register your interest here and our team will be in touch shortly.
