Legacies provide essential funds that enable Arthritis Ireland work to control and cure arthritis. Making a will is often easier and less expensive than people imagine and a valid will ensures that family members are provided for and are protected from unnecessary stress.

If you have an existing will

If you already have a will, it is easy to amend it and include a gift to Arthritis Ireland. Minor changes like this do not require a new will, as an existing will can be amended by completing a codicil, which your solicitor can help you draw up.

If you wish to make a legacy to Arthritis Ireland or would like further information, please contact us on 01-6618188 or email fundraising@arthritisireland.ie

Keep your will up to date

There are several good reasons for ensuring that you have a valid and up-to-date will:

  • To protect your loved ones
  • It is only by means of a valid will that you can be certain that your family and friends will be taken care of when you are no longer there.
  • To prevent legal problems
  • If you do not have a will or your will is out of date, it could be both costly and traumatic for your family to sort out.
  • To ensure proper care for your children
  • If you have very young children, making a will enables you to decide who will take care of them should the worst happen to you and/or your spouse.
  • To help a good cause and save tax

Once you have taken care of those who are close to you, you may like to remember organisations whose work you admire. Legacies to charity are exempt from tax. So, by leaving a gift to a charity, you will not only help improve the lives of others..

Legacy Types

If you would like to remember Arthritis Ireland in your will, there are three kinds of legacy you may leave:

Residuary: A residuary legacy is the gift of the residue of your estate, or a share of the residue, after other bequests to your family and friends and all debts, taxes and expenses have been paid. Generally, this is the kind of legacy that is of greatest benefit to us, as its value increases in line with the value of your estate.

Pecuniary: A pecuniary legacy is a specified sum of money, determined when the will or codicil is written.

Specific: When a particular item of value is bequeathed, this is a specific legacy. This can include stocks and shares, proceeds of a life assurance policy or property.
